You Know You’re a Mom When…
* you don’t even notice that you aren’t changing your daughter’s diaper; it’s her doll’s.
* you walk out the door thinking you have your keys in your hand, and when you push the button to unlock the car you hear a little toy doorbell.
* you walk into a store with a new wardrobe for yourself in mind, and you walk out of the store with six new outfits…in a size 18-24 months.
* you’re feeding your daughter her breakfast, and even HER food starts to look pretty appetizing.
* you walk into your house and the first thing that people tend to notice is all the cute toys all over the floor…that you neglected to pick up.
* you can change you daughter’s diaper in under 20 seconds…and that’s even when she’s floppin’ all over the place.
* you’re taking a shower and you can’t decide whether you should use the Strawberry Shortcake Shampoo or the Backyardigans Shampoo.
* you look through a photo album that has pictures of you and your friends out having a good time, but as you turn the pages you notice that the pictures of you are getting scarce and more pictures of your daughter appear.
* you walk out of the house with spit-up on your shirt…and you keep walking.
* you just get done changing a poopie diaper and your friend comments, “What is that rank smell?” You say, “What smell?”
* you get up a number of times in the night to make a bottle, change a diaper, read a book, or rock her to sleep. You get up the next day after only three hours of sleep, and you still manage to have enough energy to: feed her her breakfast, bathe her, run after her when she escapes from the tub with bubbles still in her hair, get ready for work, drop her off at daycare, go to work, pick her up from daycare, get her ready for bed, clean the house, do a few loads of laundry, do some homework, and go to bed.
* your DVD collection is 90% Disney and kid movies…and still growing.
* you get to work and one of your coworkers asks you what is in your hair…it’s a soggy cheerio.
* you get to work and one of your coworkers asks you what perfume you are wearing and you say, “Baby Magic Lotion.”
* you’re sitting home on a Friday night, and you’re debating whether you should watch Cinderella, Cinderella 2, or Cinderella 3. Heck it’s a Friday night…all 3 of them!
* you find a cute outfit for your 2 month-old, and you wish it came in your size.
* you buy a Sit ‘N Spin for your daughter, and you just HAVE to be the first one to test it out. (Weeeeee!)
* you’re debating where you should go on a date…Chuck E Cheese or John’s Incredible Pizza.
But the best reasons of all are…
* you go to pick her up from daycare, and before you set one foot in the door she’s already running to you with a smile from ear to ear yelling, “Momma!”
* you’re washing dishes, and she runs over to you to give you the biggest hug ever…on your leg.
* you say “I love you” to her and she blows you a kiss.
* you notice that her mind is like a sponge when you see her talking on your cell phone pacing around the room just like you.
* your friends ask you how life is going and all you can talk about is making it home in time to see her take her first steps…right to you.
And most importantly…
* You can’t remember what life was like before you had her…or what it would be like without her!

Very touching. I’d be lost without my kids. I love it when my son’s face brightens and he yells “MOMMY” when I pick him up from preschool.
It just melts your heart, doesn’t it?
Great list. I don’t know how many times I’ve walked out of the house with spit up on my shirt or cereal in my hair. You’re right though, those leg hugs are the best. Although I can still acknowledge a rank diaper…it’s hard to miss those. lol.
